 Palm Islands: Practical Information

HOURS OF OPERATION

The Palm Islands Nature Reserve is open to visitors during the summer (July to September) of each year. The rest of the year (October to June), visitors may obtain permits from the Reserve Committee to visit the reserve for educational, research, or official purposes. Visitors are only allowed in the reserve during daylight hours, from sunrise to dusk.

ENTRANCE FEE

There is no entrance fee, but donations for the management of the reserve are welcome.

   


SAFETY REGULATIONS & PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES

Visitors are encouraged to abide by the ethos: Take only memories, leave only footprints. Stay on officially designated trails. Cutting across and between trails can cause severe environmental damage and can be dangerous.

 The following are NOT allowed inside the reserve:

Smoking, campfires, or starting any type of fire Hunting
Tree or shrub cutting Collection of any flora or fauna
Littering Pets
Camping

FACILITIES

INFORMATION CENTER
Currently there is no information center, although one is in the design and planning stage.

TOILETS
There is one waterless, environmentally friendly public toilet on Palm Island.

REST AREA
A rest area with small tables, wooden umbrellas, and benches is available on Palm Island.

WHAT TO BRING

  • Please bring your own drinking water, as no drinking water is available on the islands.

  • Visitors should wear casual, sporty clothing, which they don't mind getting wet, and good walking shoes. Hiking shoes are advised if you plan to walk on the rocks.

  • To protect yourself from the sun, bring sunscreen (at least SPF 30), sun hat and sunglasses (100 UV RATED), and light clothing for direct sunlight protection.

  • If swimming or snorkeling, you should bring a bathing suit and beach towel.

  • Insect (mosquito) repellent, a camera, and binoculars are also suggested.
