Horsh Ehden: Hiking Trails and Map
There are two main entrances to the forest trails:
  • The first is to take the asphalted road that passes by the spring of Jouit and abruptly ends at a restaurant, where you can park your car. Here, the choice of two trails is available:

    • A trail that climbs upwards along a ravine that leads to Aain Al-Na'asa (Rest Area) (Trail #1)
    • A dirt trail blocked by an iron gate that slopes gently downwards towards a pine forest (Trail #2). From this pine grove, Trail #3 climbs up through a mixed forest of pine, fir, cedar, and juniper towards the Aain Al-Na'asa spring.

  • The second entrance to the forest is a dirt trail near Aain Al-Bayada. An information center is located there where visitors can get all the assistance they require. The center also marks the beginning of Trail #8. Across from the information center is a freshwater spring that can be used to fill containers for drinking water.

Three trails (#1, #3, and #8) converge towards Aain Al-Na'asa, which is considered to be a primary rest area.

  • Trail #8 is the easiest to walk because it is nearly flat. It provides a scenic overview of the valley. Because it does not include dense tree gatherings, it is great for walking during the early morning or after the heat of the sun subsides in the late afternoon.

  • Trail #3 may be the most beautiful, since it progresses towards the cedars, starting with pines and proceeding through fascinating underwood with maple trees.

  • Trail #1, the most common, is not as long as Trail #3, but it also allows the hiker to observe the progressive transformation of vegetation at varying altitudes, if the hike is carried out through the top of the forest.

From Aain Al-Na'asa spring, it is advised to take Trail #4 which provides a picturesque view overlooking certain parts of the reserve. If the hiker chooses to shorten the hike, she/he can take the shortcut (S).

Trail #9 is a more challenging climb that leads to the hamlet of Btelaya (2-3 rustic houses where families are living on agriculture and the animals they raise).

Small stakes supporting maps that have a variety of information are located along the trails in strategic places for visitor guidance.
